Institutional and Technical Support to the European Integration and Good Neighbourhood Policies in the Environment Area

Capacity development is one of our key services. The development of modern and efficient administrations, with adequate structures, human resources and management skills are crucial for success. All over Europe and beyond we assist public authorities and organisations in change processes to achieve their objectives, e.g. in taking over EU legislation. Strengthening our partners is our mission.

According to the principle of country partnerships, we support new EU Member States, accession countries and European neighbourhood policy countries in fostering their national and regional administration and in adopting and implementing legislation according to EU standards. Umweltbundesamt has been involved in about 100 Twinning partnership projects since 1999. Our success record is unique: In the area of environment we are the most successful Twinning institution EU-wide.
