Umweltbundesamt, the Environment Agency Austria, provides advisory services across a wide range of areas, mainly in the fields of climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy efficiency and renewable energy, air quality, water quality and resources, biodiversity, genetically modified organisms, nature protection, waste and resource management, chemicals, environmental legal advice as well as data management, including monitoring and reporting.

Through co-operation in numerous European and international working groups and committees, we are in touch with the latest regulatory, scientific and political developments and ensure a mutual exchange of knowledge. Public authorities, policy makers and private businesses benefit from innovative solutions and our international network

Our services

Our services focus on three main areas climate change, resources and pollutants and include

• Studies on the state of environment, effects of policies and measures on the environment. For these studies, we make also use of our experience from environmental research projects, carried out in collaboration with research institutes and universities.
• Assessment of EU policy implementation across EU Member States. Experts of Umweltbundesamt assess the implementation of environmental legislation in various EU Member States and provide recommendations to policy makers.
• Institutional capacity building: Umweltbundesamt supports environmental administrations and agencies e.g. in south-eastern Europe in adapting to EU legislation and strengthening implementation of environmental policies.

• Environmental data – monitoring & reporting
