Vienna/Brussels, 24 October 2017 - The EU-funded project PLACARD encourages multi-stakeholder dialogues between the communities of climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. To facilitate the exchange of know-how and to harmonize approaches in these two spheres, the Umweltbundesamt, the Environment Agency Austria, organised a PLACARD workshop on 24 October 2017 in Brussels. Austria´s largest expert organisation for the environment is one of the project partner organizations.

Developing a vision for 2030

The Workshop provided an overview of existing information on institutional capacity to address climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction at different scales. It gave room for discussion on how institutions working in CCA and DRR can enhance cooperation and presented examples of good practice at the forefront of integrating and mainstreaming CCA and DRR into policies and practices. The workshop results – Vision 2030 and way forward – will be used to support integration and mainstreaming of CCA & DRR into policy, institutional arrangements and practice.

PLACARD: Exploring synergies

The aim of PLACARD is to serve as a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange and collaboration between the climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction communities. In the complex landscape of stakeholder networks, research, policy initiatives and information sources, PLACARD will enhance the coherence and give direction to research, policy and practices, strengthening cooperation and countering fragmentation between the domains.
