Vienna/Belgrade, 2 March 2018 – Experts from the Umweltbundesamt, the Environment Agency Austria, assisted the Serbian authorities in the last two and a half years in the national implementation of EU biocides legislation, chemical risk assessment and risk management. Under the leadership of the Slovenian chemicals and biocides office, the experts analysed and improved, together with their Serbian partners, the registration and authorisation of biocidal products in Serbia. They also acquainted the Serbian authority with the work of the bodies of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). “The high EU standards for the authorisation of biocides ensure the protection of humans and of the environment, and they facilitate biocidal product trade between Serbia and the EU Member States,” said Georg Rebernig, Managing Director of the Environment Agency Austria, at the concluding event in Belgrade on 2 March. “Our successful cooperation with the Serbian authorities has enabled us to contribute to product safety, and we have once again been a reliable and competent partner for Serbia on the way to Europe.”

The event was attended by numerous representatives from national and international institutions, including Aleksander Vesic, Assistant Minister for environmental protection in Serbia, Dušan Čarkić, Assistant Minister of finance, Richard Masha, representative of the EU delegation to Serbia, and representatives from the Austrian and Slovenian embassies.
