The aim of the visit is to exchange experiences in the development and running of a Water Information System and water data processing. Other topics will include the planning of river basin management and the institutional set-up in the water sector of Austria and the Danube river basin. On a trip to Salzburg the Kyrgyz guests will be able to gain insights into water management at regional level. The delegation will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Environment Agency Austria, the Austrian Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism and the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) to acquire further knowledge about flood risk management and water quality monitoring in Austria.

In 2017 the Environment Agency Austria and the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry of Kyrgyzstan laid the foundations for cooperation between the two countries in the field of environmental protection by signing a Memorandum of Collaboration. They agreed to collaborate in meeting the challenges of climate change, waste management and air quality management through joint projects. The Memorandum of Collaboration also covers know-how transfer in the field of biodiversity and forests in Kyrgyzstan.
