A Move Like No Other: Relocation in Swimwear
On August 25, Environment Agency Austria made its way to its new address at Erdberger Lände, Drorygasse 1, by swimming there.
Seventy experienced swimmers from among Environment Agency Austria employees used the Danube Canal as their route to the new location. By taking the plunge into the water, they sent a strong message in support of environmentally friendly mobility, completely free of engines and emissions. Employee mobility, reimagined.

New Address: Drorygasse 1/1, 1030 Vienna
Environment Agency Austria has relocated to Drorygasse 1 in Vienna’s 3rd district. Working across four locations in the 9th and 20th districts is now a thing of the past.
What remains unchanged is the Agency’s location along the Danube Canal and its excellent connections to public transport and cycling infrastructure. Environment Agency Austria has simply moved further downstream, from Spittelauer Lände to Erdberger Lände.
Economical & Sustainable
When searching for a new workplace for Environment Agency Austria, the key criteria were cost-effectiveness, quality, and sustainability. The Agency has now moved into eNNa, a revitalized office building dating from the 1980s, located on the site of a former 19th-century gasworks.
“We are delighted to have found a sustainably renovated building with excellent access to both the underground network and cycling routes. This represents a sound solution from both an economic and sustainability perspective,” explains Environment Agency Austria Managing Director Hildegard (Gitsch) Aichberger.
She points to the conservation of resources through the reuse of previously developed land, as well as the practical implementation of climate protection and circular economy principles made possible by the choice of this building.
We want to set an example through the continued use of an existing building.
Extending the lifespan of an existing building reduces the need for materials required for new construction. During the refurbishment of the new Environment Agency Austria premises, around 60% of the existing building materials were reused. The same principle was applied to office furnishings, with extensive use of reused and second-hand furniture wherever possible.
Sustainability also played a major role in procurement. Environment Agency Austria frequently selected suppliers certified with recognized environmental labels.
Diverse Knowledge Under One Roof
For employees, the relocation marks the beginning of a new era of collaboration. Managing Director Verena Ehold welcomes this development: “For our work, it is essential to analyse environmental issues from different professional perspectives. This is the only way to arrive at robust conclusions. At our new location, our experts work under one roof, are connected through short distances, and can make use of a wide variety of workspaces. As a result, collaboration is now much easier and more efficient!”
Like the European Environment Agency, Environment Agency Austria has also moved into offices with an open-plan workspace concept.
Environment Agency Austria will continue operating its environmental management system in accordance with EMAS at the new location.
The revitalized building makes a significant contribution to further improving our environmental footprint and achieving our goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040.
