More than 35 years of experience

On 20 March 1985 the Environmental Control Act was adopted by the Austrian National Council and Umweltbundesamt, the Environment Agency Austria came into existence. In 1999 it received the legal status of a limited liability company. In our more than 35-year history we played an active role in environmental protection and monitoring in Austria and in Europe. Our expertsare continuing to develop strategies and solutions for decision-makers in politics, administration and the economy.

More than 600 experts, more diversity

The Environment Agency Austria employs 606 experts, 51% of which are women (12/2023; without conctracts with external international experts and external project staff).

In 2022 the Environment Agency Austria achieved a turnover of 65,8 million Euros. National projects accounted for 55,7m Euros, international projects for 10,1m Euros.

As Austria´s leading organisation of experts for all environmental topics and media we are also internationally active - in more than 60 countries. Enviromental Consulting and Institutional Capacity building are at the heart of the services we provide.

Partners & Networks

At international level we are actively involved in more than 200 networks and bodies, we cooperate with international institutions such as UNEP and the OECD  and provide advice e.g. to the European Parliament and the EU Commission.

Our partners include expert organisations such as the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety AGES , the Austrian Institute of Technology AIT, the Swiss Agency for Nature Conservation, the German Agency for Nature Conservation and the German Environment Agency Dessau as well as universities such as the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna.

We are a partner of the European Environment Agency EEA and a member of the network of European environmental agencies and the network of European nature conservation organisations.
