Accredited Proficiency Testing Provider according to EN ISO/IEC 17043:2010
In November 2020 the Umweltbundesamt (Environment Agency Austria) has been accredited as a proficiency testing provider for chemical analysis within the Proficiency Testing Scheme Water Analysis for Real Samples according to the international standard EN ISO/IEC 17043:2010. Analytical laboratories and civil engineering offices as well as quality control laboratories of companies can use the proficiency tests as an independent, external quality control.
Our scope of accreditation for real water samples includes nutrients, metals and trace elements in groundwater and surface water, pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals and sugar substitutes in surface water and municipal wastewater, herbicides and pesticides in groundwater and surface water, pesticides and metabolites according to the Drinking Water Ordinance, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) as well as sum parameters such as phenol index and hydrocarbon index (groundwater and drinking water), BTEX and MTBE as well as volatile halogenated hydrocarbons (VHH) in groundwater and surface water.
Since 2013, the Umweltbundesamt has been offering proficiency testing for water samples in cooperation with IFA Tulln, an institute of BOKU Vienna. From 2021, the two institutions will be able to perform all proficiency tests for synthetic water samples (IFA-Tulln) and real water samples (Umweltbundesamt) within the scope of accreditation as proficiency testing providers (EN ISO/IEC 17043:2010).

Starting in 2017 with the accreditation as a proficiency testing provider for gaseous air pollutants according to EN ISO/IEC 17043:2010 the Umweltbundesamt has been the first accredited proficiency testing provider in Austria. By extending the scope of accreditation to include real water samples, the Umweltbundesamt provides a broad range of proficiency testing services in the accredited area.
Proficiency testing provider for gaseous air pollutants
On June 6 and 7, 2023 the audit of the proficiency testing at the Umweltbundesamt (Environment Agency Austria) according to EN ISO/IEC 17043:2010 by Accreditation Austria took place.
Random samples were audited in both fields of proficiency testing - ambient air and chemical analyses.
In course of the audit it was proven that the management system was comprehensively documented and demonstrably lived.
