Fuel laboratory

The fuel laboratory at the Umweltbundesamt is a neutral and independent competence centre for fuel analysis. It is part of the testing laboratory for environmental, GMO and fuel analysis and has been accredited to EN ISO/IEC 17025 since 2004.

Key activities

Within the framework of the Fuel Quality Monitoring System (FQMS), a requirement under EU law, the fuel laboratory carries out checks on petrol and diesel fuels throughout Austria.

The checking of analytical parameters for compliance with the fuel quality standards for petrol and diesel as well as biofuel (FAME) is within the scope of our testing activities.

Range of services

Sampling of fuels according to EN 14275, EN ISO 3170

Quality control testing – compliance with standards:

  • Diesel - quality control according to EN 590
  • Petrol - quality control according to EN 228
  • Biofuel FAME - quality control according to EN 14214
  • FAME - quality control (for use as heating oil or blending component) according to EN 14213
  • Control of biofuel (FAME) blends with diesel (EN 590)

In addition, our fuel laboratory offers

  • Individual analysis of fuel relevant parameters,
  • environmental incident analysis in all environmental media (including sampling), 
  • orders configured to fit individual needs and customer-oriented service.
