Short description

Objective 

The aim of project was to improve waste management in Georgia and to bring it closer to European standards. Building efficient institutional structures and the development of a national waste strategy, including action plans for specific waste streams, were the core elements. The aim was also to increase the knowledge of civil servants, business enterprises and the public about waste disposal and waste management. 

Results

  • Improved institutional structure for the Ministry of Environment for dealing with its obligations in the area of waste management
  • Increased knowledge of public servants and stakeholders on waste management issues
  • National strategy for waste management and action plans for specific waste streams
  • Improved national legislation on waste management (new framework act and specific secondary legislation)
