Career

As one of the largest employers in the environmental sector, we rely on highly qualified people who are environmentally aware, applying their knowledge to improve the state of the environment and to conserve our natural resources. Our employees are competent, skilled and motivated. We value our people and their reliability, their ability to work under pressure, and their result orientation. Our employees are used to working in an interdisciplinary and project-oriented context and in an international, especially European, environment.

What we offer our employees

The Environment Agency Austria promotes respect and collaboration, tolerance and fairness in the workplace. Non-discrimination and equality of opportunity form part of our organisational culture. The gender ratio is evenly balanced, with 50% of our employees being women. Whether young career starters or experienced experts, we welcome employees of all ages. What counts for us is personality and competency. The Environment Agency Austria also employs people with disabilities.

Family- friendly employer

A good work-life balance is a key aspect of the Environment Agency Austria’s work environment. Therefore, we offer various family-friendly measures for our employees. With the aim to continuously improve and implement these measures, the Environment Agency Austria undergoes a certification procedure, the berufundfamilie audit, and has been granted permission to use the national certification label ‘Audit berufundfamilie’.

Flexibility

Our employees use teleworking and have the opportunity to work away from their office workplace. So they save time and do not have to travel to work. Flexible working models and part-time work schemes make it easy for parents to go back to work after parental leave. Employee satisfaction and the fact that a large number of our employees use these parental part-time work schemes show how successful these models are. Our colleagues can choose from six different part-time schemes - from a minimum of working 15 hours to working 35 hours per week.

Equal opportunities

An Equal Opportunities Officer and her Deputy act as first internal contact point for employees to prevent conflict, workplace bullying and discrimination. An advisory board for people with disabilities ensures that barriers are removed and that the necessary framework conditions are created.

A healthy work environment

The Environment Agency Austria’s occupational health doctor carries out free vaccination campaigns, eye tests, stop-smoking initiatives and health checks. She offers advice on diet and physical activity and, on request, helps employees to prevent stress and occupational disease. Together with the safety expert, she carries out ergonomic workplace assessments and provides advice to employees. There is a nearby canteen where our employees can have lunch. After work, Tai Chi or Shiatsu classes are available for our employees at reduced rates. Joint activities – e.g. participation in the Environment Agency's running challenge or in the “Austria cycles to work” initiative - are hugely popular.
