France has notified the 4th Periodic Safety Review for the Dampierre Nuclear Power Plant (Reactors 3 & 4), which is to be considered a license extension under the UNECE Espoo Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context. Austria is participating in this procedure because the possibility of a serious accident having significant impacts on Austria cannot be ruled out.
This report focuses on whether the planned long-term operation can meet modern safety expectations. It reviews aging management, external hazards, severe-accident preparedness, transboundary radiological impacts, implementation timing, and spent fuel and waste management, and identifies several areas where additional safety improvements, clearer evidence, and more transparent documentation are needed.
